Dear Mr. Bernard Murdoch,
Thank you for your presentation today. I really learned a lot of things form the speech you gave us this morning. I have been to Palau once during summer vacation. It’s a very happy, beautiful country and I am very sure that your country, Kiribati would be the same. I’ve just notice after your speech that the beautiful island Kiribati is going to disappear on the world map. I’ve done some searching about Global Warming as well. As you said, the old man cannot fight the Global Warming by himself, we’re trying to find the way to slow down the Global Warming since the damage is done, we don’t have to power to fix it. The only thing we can do is try to save Kiribati and other countries like Kiribati as long as we can. Try to save the paradise as long as possible. What I’ll never forget and you should never forget is you are not along. I felt very touch heavy when you’re giving out the speech. Since I’ve been to Palau, I can easily understand how it feels that your country is going to disappear.
I have always donate 1000NT pass these 5 years. It’s not a lot of money, but I really want to help the people who really need help. Wish you’ll be the president of Kiribati.

Global Mall

• How did it feel to have more or less money than other people in the class?

Having less money than other people, would be very difficult. Seeing other people buying everything without thinking very much would be very painful.

How did it feel to see what you could and could not afford at the Global Mall?

It's very harsh to the people who cannot afford things in the Global Mall. I'm one of the middle class people in society, but I still have to think before I buy.

• How many of you could not afford education? What would your lives be like if you could not go to school?

I'm the middle class, I can give my children normal education. It's very sad seeing other people going to a high class school and your children cannot even go to school.

• How would it feel to have to choose between food and health care?

It's a very hard choice between food and health care. Without eating good quality of food, you would ended up in the hospital, but spending too much money on food, if you're sick one day without good health care people could possibly die.

• How many of you have ever been very sick or gone to a hospital or had friends and family who have? What would your life be like now if you had been unable to get medical care?

When I was young, I'm the type of person that can easily get sick. I went to the hospital at least 18 times when I was 10 years old.

I'm glad that I'm in a middle-high class family, I can have the best health care.
If I was born in a low class family, I might be very week.

• What were the impacts caused by people with fewer Global Mall Dollars, and what were the impacts caused by people with more Global Mall Dollars?'

• Discuss the fact that roughly one-fifth of all people worldwide survive on
less than $1 (U.S.) a day – how does this limit their choices, and what are the environmental, social, and global security implications of this?

They can hardly afford food or water. When they're sick, who's going to take care of them?
Certainly no one and yes, "THEY WILL DIE".
80% of the people died because they cannot afford any health care "at all".

• When you were choosing what to buy, did you think about the environmental impact? For those of you in the lowest income range, did you have a choice about the environmental impact you produced? If not, how did it feel to not have a choice?

When you don't have a choice, you just have to do it. Most of the people including me, would not think about the environmental impact, they will just think about what is the best for themselves

Eve Ensler

1. Synopsis: what is this interview about?

The interview is about the new book that author Amy Goodman wrote. The book is about the women looses their rights in different countries.

2. How is Eve Ensler being a global citizen? What is she doing to make a difference in the world (give examples)?

She travels around the world trying to help people in the world that needed help, for example she saves the girl form the pimp.

3. Give one example of how girls can end up in harmful situations because of societal pressures "to please" others.

For example in the video, she talks about the 15 year old girl become a sex salves because if her life is been threaten.

4. What do you think are the connections between The Story of Stuff and Eve Ensler's story about the girl in the factory making Barbie doll heads?

The "Barbie Doll Connection" In the story of stuff, the lady talks about people paying their health and been pay low to work in the factories. In the interview, Eve talks about women been pay low and paying their own health to make the barbie dolls to keep the price low.

As we can see, people are working in the factories making trash and hurting themselves. This is one of the biggest that the whole world is facing.

1. The story in Avatar is really based on the age old story of colonization. Describe why Jake's colleagues want to destroy the tree the Navi live in. Do they realize that destroying the tree essentially destroys the Navi's habitat? Why or why not?

Jake's colleagues want to destroy the tree that Navi live in is because the area around the tree has the most mineral substance. In the movie, the merchant said : "This little rock sells one million per kilo." This is telling us that humans can never learn from the things happened before. In the movie Earth has become a hell. No green at all.

They don't care about the Navi's habitat at all. All they want from the

Pandora is the mineral substances, money. Even though they realize that what they're going to do will destroy the Navi's habitat, they don't care.

2. Describe a similar conflict from history.

This is like what happened to the American Indians. When the Pilgrims landed in America, the American Indians gave them food. But when the pioneers wanted more land, they killed the Indians that got in their way. That happened around the world, even in Taiwan. When people from China came to Taiwan, the aborigines were nice to them. But the same thing happened, the pioneers wanted more land so the aborigines were banished to the mountains.

In the movie Avatar, things like this happened.

3. Describe a similar conflict that is happening in the world today.

One similar conflict that is happening in the world today is the problem between China and Tibet.
Chinese want to take over Tibet for the similar reasons-- they want access to their natural resources.
They did not declare war but actually a war of psychological warfare. If there are 70000000 in Tibet, China would send 80000000 to Tibet.

Just like what happened to us in August 8th.
We get a lot of help from other countries
and so did Haiti

But sometimes we did not give them what they really need.
Such as Fast noodles, they don't even have water.
How could they possibly cook the fast noodle?

People from lots of countries stick their hand out
try to fix their country.

What is a good Citizen?

Before answering the question What is a good Citizen, let's talk about what is a citizen. A citizen can be a person of one's country, one's state, even the entire world. A citizen's job is to make one's own life better. Even though we elect other people to manage government, does not mean we don't have any real power. Citizens should also think about : What can I do for my family to create more wealth, knowledge and justice, but not just only your family, school, country, even the world. To describe subject and citizen in a easier way, a subject is a follower and the citizen is a leader.
I think Kevin Liao is a good citizen in HIS. He creates more wealth, knowledge and justice. After the class of 2009 left, people starts to get away from the basketball court, but Kevin vring all of us back to the basketball court. People started to exercise and communicate again.
Last year, all of us from Grade 7 all the way up to Grade 12 have community service. We were all good citizens.
To be a good citizen, we must take care of our family, school, state, country and the world. Start with the family, how many times a day you will help your family? How long have you been talking to your grandparents since the last time? Before helping the whole world, we should first take care of our own family. What about your school? Did you ever picked up a trash from the floor and throw them away? Country, world. They're all very similar to school and family. - Niahy said.
One of the very important thing that a good citizen should have is responsibilities. Without responsibilities, you wouldn't be a good citizen. The world "citizen" seems a lot of pressure to most of the people, but it is not that hard to be a citizen. Some of the small things can make you a good citizen too, such as recycle papers equals to save trees.
To be a good citizen is a very tough job, but to save our family, friends, good memories we must stand and fight. We all have to be a good citizen.

- His music is very successful, people play his music while he’s still alive.

How important or relevant is this music now in 2009? Who listens to it?

It’s still very important, the music he wrote is still playing. People who listen to
classical music know his music.

Is this music universal in appeal or is it very specific to a particular time, place, and culture, or audience?

Is it easy to hear that this music is directly related to music that came before it, or is it difficult to find a connection to the past?

To be honest, I don’t know the different between Old and New classical music.

Is this music related to or influenced by other art forms, or is it's content related to non-musical things (such as politics, society, race, class)

Citizen Ship - Social Boundaries

Clique - A small group of people with share interest and spend time together, but do not allow other to easily join them.

The problem about clique is that they build an Invisible wall between people.
The do not let people join them, if the whole school divided to all the little clique, new students will feel left out.

Stereotype - Widely held but fixed over simplification people.

Stereotype causes people to feel embarrassed. It sticks label on people.
People close out the type of people that they don't like.

Art Explorations Glass Farctory Trip

Art Exploration Gr.8 Nov. 10th

November 10th, We went to a glass factory near HIS

Today, the factory is making cups,
they burn the glass and when it heats up, they blow through the hole from behind.

People there wear polo shirt, because the temperature of the factory is very high.

For some of the machine, workers have to work together.

Hsinchu have lots of glass factories, because you can find silicon and gas easily.
